What’s your Campus Pride story?

Have you been involved in LGBTQ activism on your college campus? Have you experienced or witnessed bias because of your identity? Are you a leader who organizes to see change in and out of the classroom? If so, we want you to share your story!

Why? It’s simple: stories are powerful tools for making change. Your story can help provide a glimpse into the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ students. Many people know that LGBTQ+ students are facing challenges on and off campus—and that they are doing important advocacy work—but it can be hard to picture what that means, especially for people who graduated from college decades ago or have never been to college. Sharing your story can help others visualize and understand the realities of campus life. It may move allies to take action to support you and other students—and it might even help to change the minds of people who have not thought of themselves as allies, before. Seeing your story can help other students, too, by letting them know that they are not alone and they are part of a larger story that includes yours—and theirs.

Since 2001, Campus Pride has served LGBTQ and ally student leaders and campus organizations in the areas of leadership development, support programs and services to create safer, more inclusive LGBTQ-friendly colleges and universities. It exists to develop, support and give “voice and action” in building future LGBTQ and ally student leaders.

In order to better understand and communicate the needs of LGBTQ+ students, we want to hear stories directly from students, recent alumni, and campus faculty and staff about student experiences on college campuses around the country.

We want to use these stories—and what we learn from them—to show the wider world what is happening on campuses today. That includes the challenges LGBTQ+ students are facing, as well as their courage and commitment to working for change.
