Campus Pride receives $35,000 in funding from the Reemprise Fund to build new Campus Pride Medical School Index

Campus Pride received a $35,000 grant from the Reemprise Fund to build the first phase of the new Campus Pride Medical School Index (CPMSI). The CPMSI will provide the first-ever benchmarking tool for medical schools to measure and assess competencies necessary for future physicians to improve care for LGTBQ people.

“Campus Pride is thrilled to begin the first phase of development with our national team of experts for the Campus Pride Medical School Index and create this national standard to inspire change in medical schools policies, programs and practices,” said Shane Windmeyer, Executive Director of Campus Pride. “We are deeply appreciative to the funding from the Reemprise Fund for this game-changing initiative.”

In addition, the CPMSI allows LGBTQ medical school students, faculty and staff a resource for knowing which medical schools are more LGBTQ-inclusive in policies, programs and practices. Medical schools will compete for a 5-star designation as LGBTQ-friendly in order to attract the best medical students and professionals.

With an increasing need for data to better understand opportunities to improve the climate for all individuals from multiple identities, Campus Pride enlisted a ten member research team of current medical professionals to devise the LGBTQ care competencies as it relates to policies, programs and practices. Using custom technology similar to the award-winning CampusPrideIndex.org, CPMSI seeks to assist medical schools in creating an inclusive climate through the identification of LGBTQ-friendly benchmarks that will improve the experience in academic medicine for all individuals regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.
