What is the Voice & Action Athlete Award?

The Voice & Action Athlete Award is presented to undergraduate student athletes from colleges and universities across the country. This award recognizes the contributions of young adult leaders and the indelible impact that their efforts have on the present and future of our fight for greater acceptance in sports. This award is in partnership with GO! Athlete and the StandUp Foundation.

Criteria for Recipients

The Voice & Action Athlete Award will be awarded to any undergraduate student who is enrolled for the Fall and/or Spring at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States of America. Each recipient must be in good academic standing at their respective campus, and be a Student Athlete; as defined as, any undergraduate student that actively participates in an intramural/club sport, or intercollegiate sport.

Decision Process

Any student who successfully completes a full application by the deadline will be considered. Applicants are judged on their resume, essays, and letters of recommendation. Campus Pride will organize a committee of student leaders, professionals in the field of higher education, professional sports and corporate leaders who will decide on the awardees. Each of the awardees must demonstrate how they live the mission and values of Campus Pride as they bring about positive change on their respective campuses.

Application

Welcome to the 2015 Voice & Action Athlete Award Application. In order to apply, please email the following materials to katie@campuspride.org. All materials are due by Monday, November 3, 2014.

– Resume highlighting your leadership experiences

– (2) Faculty/Staff recommendations

– Peer Recommendation answering the following question:

Please share the main challenges facing LGBTQ people and their allies in regards to achieving greater justice and fairness for all people regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identities, and gender expressions. How has your work created a positive environment for LGBTQ people and Allies on your campus and in your community? How have you addressed the challenges outlined above? Your answer may be in either essay or video form. Videos may not exceed 5 minutes, and essays may not exceed 1200 words.

Once completed, you will receive a confirmation email from the selection committee chair to remind you of your next steps.

All materials, aside from the online application form must be emailed to katie@campuspride.org no later than 11:59 PM EST Monday, November 3, 2014.
